Karin and Jim stayed with us this weekend - they needed their Leif fix! On Saturday, we went to the West Hollywood Park in hopes of giving Leif his first experience swimming in a pool - plans were dashed due to a power outage. So we played in the toddler park - Leif loved the swing!
Then we had a nice leisurely lunch at the Abbey - Gretchen managed to restrain her self from ordering the $12 lemonade or the Red Bull Mojito. Leif entertained himself by reading the menu and throwing 2 spoons, 6 straws, 3 napkins, and two watermelon slices on the floor (thank goodness we dined outside). The food was excellent!
Later that evening, Jim and Gretchen conjured up a delicious dinner: Butternut Squash Gnocchi.
The next morning it was all about yard work - sod was laid down, a burgundy bougainvillea was planted, and a tree stump was removed. We then headed back over to the West Hollywood Park for the 7th Annual Book Fair. Among other things, we picked up a signed copy of The Urban Homestead: Your Guide to Self-sufficient Living in the Heart of the City and Leif's First Book of Proverbs (in English and Spanish). We then headed over to a book talk on living green in the city where we met Ed Begley Jr. - celebrity, friend of Phil's and all around great guy dedicated to making the earth greener. After playing in the park where Leif earned his first grass stains, we then headed back to the abode to install a new water filter, eat a pizza dinner, and bid adieu to Karin and Jim.
