Take me out to the ballgame,
I'll be afraid of the crowd,
I'm too young for peanuts or crackerjacks,
but I'll sure cry if you don't take me back,
let's ROOT ROOT ROOT for the PADRES (or for some milk),
If they don't win, I could care less (as long as I get fed....)
cuz it's 1, 2, 3 strikes I'm out (like a light)
At the old ball game!
Yes, we took Leif to his very first Baseball game, with the great rival teams, the Padres and the Dodgers. The Padres won 1-0, Greg Maddux pitched a stellar 5 innings, followed by a solid outing by the Padres Bullpen, and All Time Saves Leader Trevor Hoffman closed the game for the save, only allowing a single hit. Yes, the bats were kinda quiet, but the crowd wasn't in this excellent pitcher's duel.
It was a MILLION degrees out (actually more like in the 90's but come ON, that's hot!), but luckily, we scored a nice shady seat with an air conditioned room to hole up in if even the shade was too much. The boy actually made it through most of the game, but did get scared several times by the crowd cheering (and Dad booing) and booing (and Dad cheering - GO PADRES). Finally, he passed out in Dad's arms during the bottom of the 8th inning, but was woken right back up in the bottom of the ninth, when the Padres made the winning out.
Not sure if he'll grow up to be a Dodgers fan or a Padres fan, but he's sure to have ample time watching both teams to make up his mind.
PS - It should be noted that Leif ALSO made his first Radio appearance on XXSports Radio, 1090 AM in the background when Dad called in to the post game show. The hosts were delighted to hear from such a young fan, and reminded Dad to keep the ticket stubs to memorialize this historic event.
