Leif: Week Twelve

A simple message this week from the Newsom tribe: Happy Earth Day (coming up on Tuesday, April 22nd).

Gretchen intends to honor the day by walking to work, Kris will replace the bathroom light bulbs with compact florescents, Leif will wear his organic outfit and drink from his usual glass bottles, and Anouk will recycle her fur.  How do you plan to spend the day?  And no, Earth Day is not just for the hippies from Humboldt:)

Take me out to the ballgame...

Take me out to the ballgame,
I'll be afraid of the crowd,
I'm too young for peanuts or crackerjacks,
but I'll sure cry if you don't take me back,
let's ROOT ROOT ROOT for the PADRES (or for some milk),
If they don't win, I could care less (as long as I get fed....)
cuz it's 1, 2, 3 strikes I'm out (like a light)
At the old ball game!

Yes, we took Leif to his very first Baseball game, with the great rival teams, the Padres and the Dodgers.  The Padres won 1-0, Greg Maddux pitched a stellar 5 innings, followed by a solid outing by the Padres Bullpen, and All Time Saves Leader Trevor Hoffman closed the game for the save, only allowing a single hit.  Yes, the bats were kinda quiet, but the crowd wasn't in this excellent pitcher's duel.

It was a MILLION degrees out (actually more like in the 90's but come ON, that's hot!), but luckily, we scored a nice shady seat with an air conditioned room to hole up in if even the shade was too much.  The boy actually made it through most of the game, but did get scared several times by the crowd cheering (and Dad booing) and booing (and Dad cheering - GO PADRES).  Finally, he passed out in Dad's arms during the bottom of the 8th inning, but was woken right back up in the bottom of the ninth, when the Padres made the winning out.

Not sure if he'll grow up to be a Dodgers fan or a Padres fan, but he's sure to have ample time watching both teams to make up his mind.

PS - It should be noted that Leif ALSO made his first Radio appearance on XXSports Radio, 1090 AM in the background when Dad called in to the post game show.  The hosts were delighted to hear from such a young fan, and reminded Dad to keep the ticket stubs to memorialize this historic event.

Leif 's First Trip to Home Depot

With the goal to outfit our new apartment with much needed shelves for DVD storage, Kris strapped Leif onto himself and strolled around Home Depot while Gretchen was at work.

A customer was so smitten by this sight of "Dad and Little Man bonding" that she snapped pictures and sent them to Kris.

Leif already has carpenter overalls, and we're just waiting for him to learn how to use the drill press and wood saw....in 13 years.

Kris Couldn't Resist!

Watch out Arnold - there's a new terminator in town!

Leif's First Sporting Events

Leif has attended his first sporting events: LA Lakers vs. Washington Wizards (we won!) and the LA Kings vs. San Jose Sharks (we lost). He seemed to enjoy watching the hockey game more than the basketball game...probably has something to do with the visual contrast of the players on the ice. Much thanks to Phil and Canyon Partners for the tickets!

A Tip For New Parents

Staying away from home with the wee infant and don't have room in the car for the bassinet/crib? Grab some blankets, towels, and a laundry basket and create an instant sleep space for the tot!

Leif at 10 Weeks - Happy Spring!

Spring has arrived and Leif is thriving! We spent easter/Spring Equinox in San Diego with Leif's grandparents - too bad Leif didn't quite get around to coloring his egg before dozing off! Hope you enjoy the pictures - more are to come this weekend. ***Note to Mo and Doug: we decided not to dress Anouk up as the Easter Bunny because your dog took the cake! Look at Darwin!
